Dear Supporter,
In the above video, we demonstrate how to use our Koko Signs app for its most basic functionality — to learn a new sign, with help from Koko. Note that when you find the sign you’re looking for, you’ll see Koko demonstrating it first (in a short video clip).
And if you swipe right, you’ll see another video, of native ASL signer, Darlene Chan, demonstrating the standard way to do the sign in ASL.
Then if you swipe right again, I explain the difference between the way Koko (or Michael) do the sign and the conventional ASL.
Finally, if you want to see a real-life example of Koko using the sign to communicate with me, or other caregivers and friends, you can scroll down to related Conversations for the sign, and play a longer video that includes that sign and others with links to jump directly to each sign.
We are adding new signs to the app, and have many more to go, as Koko learned over 1000 signs (and invented some of her own signs!
Next time we’ll demonstrate another feature of the app — such as Conversations, eBooks, Gorillas, or KokoGrams. Stay tuned, and please enjoy and share the app til then …
